Issues facing
Washington State

I see it every day. Families are paying more for groceries, housing feels harder to afford, and people are worried about safety in their neighborhoods and the future their kids will inherit.

Too often, decisions made in Olympia don’t reflect the realities of life in Eastern Washington. Policies may be well-intended, but when they raise costs, limit choices, or take decisions away from local communities, working families end up paying the price.

I believe we can do better. I believe we can lower the cost of living without cutting the services people depend on. We can support law enforcement and keep communities safe while also being thoughtful and responsible. We can strengthen schools by listening to parents, teachers, and local leaders instead of relying on one-size-fits-all mandates. And we can grow jobs and protect our natural resources without putting unnecessary burdens on working families.

I’m not interested in politics for its own sake. I’m focused on common sense, accountability, and listening to the people who live and work here. That’s how I believe Washington moves forward—and it’s the approach I’ll bring to public service.

The government shouldn’t make life more expensive.

I’m fighting to reduce taxes, fees, and regulations that drive up the cost of housing, fuel, child care, and everyday necessities—so working families can get ahead, not fall behind.

I believe in strong schools, safer classrooms, and better student outcomes—while keeping education decisions local, not dictated by one-size-fits-all mandates from Olympia.

Our police officers and sheriffs put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe. As your State Senator, I will fight to ensure law enforcement is fully funded and has the resources, training, and support needed to do the job safely and effectively.

Keeping our families and neighborhoods safe is one of the most important responsibilities of the state government. The reality is that violent and domestic crimes remain a serious concern for communities across Washington. In 2024, statewide data reported 29,036 violent crimes, including assaults and robberies, and nearly half of all crimes against people involved domestic violence incidents—a stark reminder that the work isn’t finished.

As your State Senator, I will make public safety a top priority. That means fully funding our police, deputies, and first responders so they have the training, equipment, and staffing they need to do their jobs effectively. It also means supporting targeted legislation that addresses the root causes of violence, strengthens accountability, and gives law enforcement the tools they need to protect our neighborhoods.

Our residents deserve to feel safe at home, at school, and out in our communities—and I’m committed to working across the aisle to make that a reality.

I’ll fight to cut red tape, expand workforce training and apprenticeships, and support job creation—without burdensome regulations that hurt workers and employers.

Washington needs dependable, affordable energy that works around the clock—not policies that gamble with reliability or drive up costs. Nuclear power provides carbon-free electricity 24/7, strengthens grid stability during extreme weather, supports high-wage jobs in the Tri-Cities, and enhances energy independence. An all-of-the-above energy strategy that includes nuclear is essential to keeping power reliable, prices affordable, and Washington competitive.

Farming isn’t just an industry in Washington—it’s a way of life. The families who work our fields get up early, work long days, and carry the responsibility of feeding our communities and the world. They don’t need more red tape or uncertainty from Olympia; they need reliable water, fair regulations, and leaders who understand that you can’t farm from a desk. Supporting agriculture means standing up for family farms, rural jobs, and the future of Eastern Washington.

Homelessness is a serious challenge that demands real, effective solutions. Addressing it means helping people get the support they need while also protecting public safety and neighborhood livability. We should prioritize mental health care and substance abuse treatment, focus resources on programs that deliver results, and ensure laws are enforced so communities remain safe and clean. Compassion and accountability must go hand in hand—helping individuals rebuild their lives while respecting families, workers, and businesses.

Washington’s housing costs are crushing families, seniors, and young couples trying to buy their first home. The solution isn’t more bureaucracy — it’s more housing, built faster and at lower cost, with accountability and local control.

Taxpayers deserve smarter spending and real oversight. I’ll push for responsible budgets and balanced environmental policies that protect our land without raising costs on families and farmers.

I will fight to restore accountability and balance at the Department of Fish and Wildlife by making sure decisions are driven by sound science—not political ideology. That means protecting rural communities, respecting hunters and anglers, and reforming the system so it serves all of Washington, not just Olympia insiders.

Hydropower is a critical part of an all-of-the-above energy strategy, and the Lower Snake River dams are essential to the Pacific Northwest. They provide reliable, carbon-free power for hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses while supporting irrigation, navigation, flood control, and recreation. Rather than dismantling a proven, affordable energy source, we should be protecting it. I will continue to oppose efforts to breach the Lower Snake River dams and fight to keep this vital infrastructure in place.

I oppose efforts to strip authority from elected sheriffs and shift that power to unelected state bureaucrats. Sheriffs should be accountable to the voters they serve, not to political appointees in Olympia.

I support Washington’s initiative process as a fundamental check on government power and a direct voice for voters.  When citizens speak, Olympia should listen. Initiatives backed by hundreds of thousands of signatures deserve public hearings and serious consideration. I oppose efforts to weaken or block initiatives through procedural games or legislative delay.
